Session No. 80 Cache Wednesday Night (1/30)

TP= +$60 TT: 6 Hrs

Yup. Did okay I guess...

- Bottom set gets snapped off by a flush in a kill pot
- Bottom set holds in a kill pot
- Bunch of other worthless hands I can't remember...

Shoulda posted this a while ago...now I can't remember shit because I just got home from a 12 hr session where I ran fucking horribly (2/1/08).

Session No. 79 Monday (1/28)

4/8-Kill: TP = -$100 TT: 2 Hrs 30 Mins

Wow...remind me not to go on a Monday/Tuesday night out to Cache...such a dead table. Rockiest 4/8 table ever.

So I rolled up there with the SD and found myself on the waiting list for a good 30 minutes before I was finally able to get a seat. When I finally sat down and played an orbit, I found something extremely peculiar: Everyone was folding. There was maybe three to a flop on average, and hands were getting folded to the blinds almost religiously. I figured it wasn't a big deal and people would snap out of it eventually.

I was wrong. In retrospect, I should have asked for a table change, but instead I just looked at the SD and suggested taking off sometime in the next half hour and coming back on Wednesday (action is usually really good on Wednesday because of the weekly NL Donkament). The 30 minutes turned into an hour and 30 minutes as the action picked up a little bit, but still not enough to my liking. We finally decided to leave after the two loosest players at the table took off, leaving us with one lag and four rocks.

To be honest, I was pretty card dead throughout the session. My late-position hands were usually complete trash. Had I been dealt some mid-suited connectors, off-suit face cards, or other playable hands such as those, I might have raised and pushed around the tight/passive table. Unfortunately, I usually found those hands in early position, and opted to just fold and wait instead of put myself in any difficult decisions out of position.

Here are a couple of interesting HHs from the session:

Hand 1 I have A:s:Q:d: somewhere in MP(seat 7). Seat 5 (an older black man), limps in front of me, I raise, folds around to the SB, an older Asian woman (seat 1, somewhat LPP) who calls, BB folds.

Flop: K:d:8:d:3:h:

That's probably not the correct flop, but I basically remember it being K-high and having a couple diamonds. It gets checked to me, I bet, and seat five is the only one that calls. I have played with him alot in the past month or so, as this is probably the fourth session I've played with him. If he's paying attention, which I think he has been, he should know I'm tight/solid. He floats alot of flops, so his call didn't bother me too much.

Turn: 9:d:

The third diamond hits. He checks, and I think about checking behind, but opt to bet instead, trying to represent a big enough hand that I'm not overly afraid of a flush. Seat 5 opts to fold and show J:h:J:s:. Wow. I had been playing with this guy quite a bit, but I had no idea he was capable of open-limping jacks and then playing them so passively. Whatever, I'll take it.

Hand 2 is just as strange, as I was dealt TT (forgot the suits, but I think I have a spade) UTG+1. I raise, and get cold-called by seat 1, seat 2 (a new player, seems a bit LPP), and seat 3 who has the button (Laggy player). The old man in seat 5 comes along for the ride as well out of the BB and we see a flop of...

Flop: Q:s:5:s:2:c:

Checked to me, I bet, seat one calls, seats two and three fold, and seat five calls.

Turn: A:h:

Seat 5 checks to me, and I bet out yet again. Seat one was capable of floating a lot of crap on the flop (as she had floated pretty much anything/everything all day), so I remember being a little worried of A-rag or some other crap she might have just got there with. Thankfully she folded, but seat 5 called. Blech. I guess he has a Queen?

River: 9:c:

Seat five checks, and I check behind. I remember saying "well if you flopped a queen your good." He takes awhile to show, but when he finally does, he sheepishly turned over 8:h:2:h: for bottom pair. Wow...he can lay down JJ to me on a K-high board, but will call me down on an AQxx board with bottom pair??? K...

Anyway, that's enough hands for now, I'm tired. This month has been kinda crappy, hopefully I can turn things around starting Wednesday. Wish me luck and thanks for reading.

Hilarious

My buddy Fizz wrote this story...read it :)

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked
my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for
a little something extra for my wife Bonnie. What I came across was a
100,000-volt, pocket/purse- sized taser. The effects of the taser were
supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your
assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety.

WAY TOO COOL!

Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home. I loaded two
triple-a batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I
was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button AND
pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I'd get the blue
arch of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs.??
AWESOME!!!? Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that
burn spot is on the face of her microwave!

Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it
couldn't be all that bad with only two triple-A batteries, right?! !??
There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting
little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I
really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target. I
must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second)
and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going
to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did
want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong???

So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading
glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one
hand, and taser in another.
The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient
your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms
and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would
purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of
water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the
batteries.? ? All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring
about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference; pretty cute really
and (loaded with two itsy, bitsy triple-A batteries) thinking to myself,
"no possible way!"??

What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my
best...I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked
to one side as to say, "don't do it stupid," reasoning that a one-
second burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn't hurt all that
bad. I decided to give myself a one-second burst just for heck of it. I
touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button and... HOLY
MOTHER OF GOD, WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION! !!

I'm pretty sure Hulk Hogan ran in through the side door, picked me up in
the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and
over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position,
with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles
nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest
position, and tingling in my legs! The cat was standing over me making
meowing sounds I had never heard before, licking my face, undoubtedly
thinking to herself, "Do it again, stupid, do it again!"

Note: If you ever feel compelled to "mug" yourself with a taser, one
note of caution: there is no such thing as a one-second burst when you
zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged
from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor. A three-second
burst would be considered conservative.

SON-OF-A-*%# ... That hurt like **% !!! A minute or so later (I can't
be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my
wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My
bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. How did they
get up there??? My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still
twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my
bottom lip weighed 88 lbs.

I'm still looking for my testicles! I'm offering a significant reward
for their safe return!!

P. S. My wife loved the gift, and now regularly threatens me with it!
If you think Education is difficult, try being stupid.

Session No. 78 Cache Thurs Night (1/24)

4/8-Kill: TP = +$250 TT: 6 Hrs

Ran a lot better today...I'm really glad the Superdonk was able to talk me into going. Yesterday I just had such a terrible run of cards, I really felt like taking a week off and re-grouping. Good thing I didn't...

The first big hand of the session I was dealt two black Queens somewhere in MP. I raise pre-flop after a limper, get called by the player to my immediate left, the button (seat 6, complete donktard), and the BB and the limper come along too. We see the flop five-handed...

Flop: J:s:T:s:7:d:

Yikes...checked to me, I bet, called by three of the four players.

Turn: 7:c:

Good card I'm sure. Checked to me, I bet, called in the same three spots.

River: 6:c:

Check, I bet again, called only by the button who says "I know you got it..." Ahh, those words are so great to hear as you're being called down, because you know he's not just calling with a seven or a straight.

I won some small pots here and there. Looking back on the session, it's hard to find hands to talk about, because I guess I either had really bad cards or really good cards that held/didn't get too much resistance.

Oh, another hand that happened early on was A:c:K:c: out of the big blind. It gets limped in a few spots, I raise, one caller, donktard (seat 6) decides to three-bet, call, I cap of course, the other three players call.

Flop: A:h:6:h:3:d:

Not the prettiest flop for A:c:K:c:, but it would have to do. I lead out, my buddy to the immediate left of me (seat 3) calls, and the donktard calls.

Turn: K:h:

I remember thinking that it was unlikely either of my opponents had the flush. The donktard would have raised the flop 9 times out of 10 there with a flush draw, but I guess the guy to my left (seat 3) could have had the flush. Anyway, I bet, called in both spots, and now I'm just hoping that another heart doesn't roll off.

River: 7:c:

I bet, called by seat 3, and seat 6 shows K5 of clubs (<3 Live Players) and mucks his hand. I show AK, seat 3 showed AT (also no hearts) and I took down the pot.

Hmm...I'm tired...and like I said, I can't remember anymore hands. I did get kinda "lucky" one hand where I raised a bet from the small-blind and three callers on the flop (I think I was OTB) with a backdoor heart draw, two-overs, and a gutshot straight draw to the nuts. The table had gone ultra-passive, so I was pretty certain that if I raised the flop, I could get a free river card and maybe hit one of my outs. I didn't have to wait long, as I hit my gutty on the turn and got paid off by two-pair (top and bottom on the flop) from the small-blind.

Going to catch some z's now...I might write some more tomorrow since I'm probably not playing until Sunday night. Thanks for reading.

Session No. 77 Cache Weds (1/23)

4/8-Kill: TP = -$130 TT: 6 Hrs 30 Min

Bad times. Ran terrible.

Tuesday, January 22, 2008

Session No. 76 Cache Monday (1/21)

4/8-Kill: TP = -$220 TT: 4 Hrs 30 Min

Went up to Cache after I got off work (830am) with the SD to play some before he had to go to work that night. I started off running pretty terrible...and it only got worse. I originally bought-in for a rack, and after not winning a hand for the first hour I was there, I had to dig back in to the wallet and fish out another bill.

Three big-pairs cracked later, I was fishing out yet another bill. Oh well...one of the hands that led to the third hundo coming out was a flopped straight getting rivered by a 7-high flush in a kill pot. I remember thinking if I had won that pot I would've went from down $100 to up $120 or so, turns out I was now down closer to $200...

Proceeded to run even crappier...and the dreaded fourth hundo was summoned from my wallet. Wow. Haven't run that bad in quite some time. I think the lowest I got was about -$300, but I won a few pots late and ended the session only down about $220 or so. Not a fun day, but it happens. I'm probably playing both Wednesday and Thursday, taking the day off today.

Session No. 75 Cache Tues Night (1/15)

4/8-Kill: TP = +$25 TT: 3 Hrs

Wtf...had to play 4-handed for like 20 minutes before the old guy in seat nine finally got tired of playing short-handed. I did okay...started off terrible, but ended on a pretty okay note. Might play tomorrow night...we'll see I guess.

Session No. 74 Capitol Monday Night (1/14)

4/8-Kill: TP = +$220 TT: 6 Hrs

Ugh, was up somewhere around +$340 at one point, but proceeded to free-fall from there. Set of Jacks lost to a turned straight in a kill pot, then I lost with top and bottom pair on the flop to top-two...oh well. I was involved in quite a few big pots...

Hand 1:

Pre-flop I raise with a couple red nines somewhere in EP. Called in a ton of spots.

Flop: 9:c:4:c:2:s:

Donk in the BB leads out, I raise, called in like four spots, BB three-bets, I cap...called in every spot...huge pot now. Donk in BB starts yelling to pair the board (something he said a couple hands earlier when he had a flush draw)

Turn: A:c:

Booooooo! Donk leads, I call, called behind in a couple spots

River: 7:c:

Swing and a miss...BB bets, some guy calls behind me before I can even act so I fold. BB shows K:c:2:c: and rakes in my huge pot.

Hand 2:

Pre-flop: Limped in every spot but one, I look down at Black Kings OTB. I raise, both blinds call, the five limpers call...

Flop: K:h:9:h:7:s:

Small-blind looks at me and donk-bets...called in four spots, I raise, sb calls, everyone else calls

Turn: 3:c:

Checked to me, I bet, two calls

River: 2:c:

Yay I have the nuts. Checked to me, I bet, one caller (SB)

SB: "Wow yeah that's good" :)

Hand 3:

Pre-flop: Kill pot, limped in a couple spots, I raise somewhere in MP with JJ, called by the blinds and the two early limpers, I have position on the table.

Flop: Q:c:J:s:9:h:

SB checks, BB donk-bets, call, call, Hero raises, SB folds, BB 3-bets, call, fold, Hero caps, two calls

Turn: T:c:

Fuck? BB bets, call, Hero calls

River: 5:d:

BB Bets, fold, Hero calls

BB had KQ

No complaints from me though. Aside from that last hand I posted and the last couple of orbits in general, I ran pretty well and had a lot of fun. The table was extremely friendly for some reason as we all traded jokes and stories. I usually don't take a liking to the players I play against very often, but tonight was different for some reason.

Anyway, probably playing tonight (Tuesday) with the Superdonk. Tony, if you want to go, hit me up.

Session No. 73 Cache Thurs Night (1/10)

4/8-Kill: TP = +$170 TT: 5 Hrs

Yeah yeah I lost some money at 3/6 trying to win the aces cracked promotion, but fuck that, I'm not letting that skew my results. Anyway, I ran pretty abysmal to start the evening, ran good in the middle, then kinda just ran even-keel toward the end.

About an hour into the 4/8 game my old nemesis Dominic (rude foreign guy, hates Tony) showed up and basically questioned why me and Tony always play together. I should have been a smartass and pointed at the Superdonk and said "I play way more with this guy than I do with Tony"...anyway, I didn't really like having both Tony and the SD at my table...I think 3 TAGs is about two too many TAGs to my liking for one table...but whatever. Okay well Dominic snapped off a two-outer on Tony kinda early into the session, but I had Tony's back...

Hero has the kill-button in MP

Pre-flop:

Couple limpers, four folds, Dominic raises from the BB, call call, Hero calls with 63 of hearts (yeah yeah, a little too loose...but hey, it's my kill-pot and this douchebag is raising just for that reason...besides I have position on him)

Flop: 7:d:3:c:3:d:

Boooooyah. Dominic bets, one caller, I raise, Dominic calls, limper calls.

Turn: 8:s:

Dominic checks, limper checks, Hero bets, Dominic raises, fold, Hero calls. Shit...I immediately thought this guy had 77 or 88...oh well, that's what I get for defending with kaka...

River: 3:s:

Boom.

He had 77 btw...

<---runs like a Kenyan (on crack)

1-outer FTW!

After that the session was fairly standard...won some, lost some, and my chips didn't really move up or down all that much. Not sure if I'm going back tomorrow night or not...guess we'll see.

Session No. 72 Cache Tues (1/8)

4/8-Kill: TP = +$235 TT: 4 Hrs

Yes you read that correctly, after getting back in town from Jackson Tuesday night, I drove to the Superdonk's house, picked him up, and off we went to Cache to play something I actually play well...limit! We got there around 8pm or so and I immediately got involved in some juicy pots.

Hero has 88 UTG.

Pre-flop: Hero raises, I think everyone but a couple spectators on the rail called this raise pre-flop...

Flop: 863

Nice. Bet, called by a ton of people

Turn: Board gets uglier

Bet, called by a few people

River: One possible straight combo is out, but I still bet and get called in a couple spots.

Set of eights were good obv.

After that I couldn't get a hand to hold until I get mixed up in a nice kill-pot. Hero has KJ of diamonds in the cutoff...I raise, get four callers (awesome).

Flop: A:d:T:c:8:s:

Decent flop. I have a backdoor flush draw to go with my gutty, and I can represent the ace since I've been playing pretty solid. It checks to me, and I c-bet, hoping the button folds and I can check-behind on the turn if I get too many callers and see a free river. Instead I get called by all but one player...oh well.

Turn: Q:s:

Hallelujah praise Jesus! Checks to me, I bet, donk OTB raises, kid in the BB calls off his last $30, folds to me and I 3-bet. Donk calls. Worst case scenario is I'm chopping/the guy has a freeroll to the spades, after he only calls the 3-bet I'm guessing he has some crappy two pair.

River: 4:c:

Complete blank...thank you thank you thank you. I bet, donk calls, I show the nuts and rake in a monster pot. <3 Kill pots <3 Live poker

Villain had j9os btw for a smaller straight...tough beat I guess, but that's why you don't call my raises with off-suit gap connectors pre-flop against me.

After that the rest of the night was pretty standard...aside from this ridiculous free slot tournament going on for the rest of the month...I definitely need to bring my Ipod with me tomorrow (Thursday)...stay tuned for updates.

Session No. 71 Jackson Mon/Tues (1/7-1/8)

1/2 NL: TP = -$30 TT: 12 Hrs

So I played a good 12 hours or so combined for Monday and Tuesday. I played the majority of those hours on Monday (nine hours) and then a quick session Tuesday. I'd say I definitely have some things to work on (which would include bet-sizing, developing a looser-image, being more aggro on later streets, etc) but I think my overall play was pretty good. I got my money in bad once, but I think that was unavoidable. And you guys know I usually don't like to complain, but I did get three-outered twice and two-outered once...all in some very significant pots. I won't dwell on those for too-long:

- Trip 3's (A3) on a 337 flop, K on the turn vs KQ...we get it all-in on the turn ($220+ pot), River is a King.

- I flop trip tens with KT vs JT...turn is a Jack. ($400+ pot)

- I turn trip Aces with A9 out of the BB against A8. River is an eight ($300+ pot)

So besides those, I did okay...I think. This next hand was pretty awesome...

Hero has 99 UTG+2. Villain with KQ and JT up there in those bad beat hands raises to $12 UTG (he claimed to have Aces, dunno bout that). Villain UTG+1 calls (he ends up having KK...zomg thanks for not re-raising). Hero calls with $360 behind (implied odds FTW!), Villain1 covers, Villain2 has about $200 in his stack.

So the flop is fantastically awesome aside from a couple diamonds:

Flop: 9:d:7:d:4:c:

Villain1 leads out $50 and I immediately thought he had a really big hand. First off, he hadn't raised very much at all pre-flop, so along with him being UTG, I put two and two together and decided he has an over-pair...please double me up! Villain2 then raised to $100. Wow, didn't see that coming...I was thinking he might have a diamond-draw or another over-pair (maybe tens?) or possibly a smaller set (that'd be even more awesome!). I tanked for a few seconds...and then decided to shove. After reading the forums on what to do in this spot, I thought shoving was the best play. I want Villain1 to maybe put me an a smaller over-pair or a flush draw and just make it look like I am trying to push him off his hand.

Villain1 suprisingly folded (not sure if he had aces, but he seemed really sincere about it the rest of the night, even as we were both cashing out) and then villain2 (pocket kings) tanks for like thirty-seconds. He immediately said "I think you have a set...god you have a set don't you?" I didn't respond, but in my mind I was just hoping he would commit the last of his ~$80 or so and let me please for once this trip dodge a freaking two-outer. Villain finally calls, the board bricks out, and I rake in my biggest pot of the trip. Boom.

Session No. 70 Jackson Friday (1/4)

1/2 NL: TP = +$60 TSP = 5 Hrs

Alright well even though the weather was uber-shitty, I rode with my friend Todd to Jackson Rancheria. Todd's playing in a couple big tournaments Monday and Tuesday up there, so he wanted to go up Friday to make sure he bought in and was registered ahead of time. After registering, we sat down and play some 1/2NL. I knew ahead of time the limit games would be scarce (they had one 3/6 table going lol!) so I was ready to play some NL cash.

To be honest, I was pretty lost on a few key situations, something that almost never happens to me in limit. The players were pretty soft though, so I made money despite those few mistakes.

I can't really remember any hands to go into them in detail, but I picked up Aces a couple times and then flopped a set of threes once, but besides that I actually ran somewhat cold. I was able to c-bet a couple times to take down some decent pots, and I even made a successful semi-bluff. On the flipside, I put a guy who was short-stacked and flopped a set of Queens all-in with my nut-flush draw (he boated up on the turn lol) and then I lost a good chunk of my stack with AQ vs A4 of clubs (guy turned his flush).

I think pre-flop went, Villain limped, Hero raised to $10, villain called.

Flop: Q:c:7:d:5:c:

Check, Hero bets $15, Villain Calls

Turn: 3:c:
Check, Hero bets $30, Villain calls

River: T:c:

Check, Check

I show my Queen and the villain (obv frustrated) showed A:c:4:c:. To be honest, he's not getting any more money out of me anyway. If he raises the turn I'm gone and if he donks the river I'm folding there too.

Anyway, I'm going up to Jackson again Monday/Tuesday with Todd, so wish me luck and hopefully this limit-donk can run good and make some money playing NL :)

Wednesday, January 2, 2008

Session No. 69 Cache Tues (1/1)

4/8-Kill: TP = +$65 TT: 5 Hrs

What better way to bring in the new year than to go play some live pokah? Tony called me around 1pm or so and woke me up out of my tired stupor to go play at Cache. The Superdonk was already out playing, so I figured going up to watch him donk off some chips would be worth the trip itself...

Now tonight is Friday and I just got back in from playing 1/2 NL at Jackson with my friend Todd, but I'll do my best to give you a rundown of some interesting hands. The first hand I really played at the table was KQos from EP. I raise, get a couple of callers behind me, and then the BB tags along.

Flop: Q:d:T:d:3:c:

Check, I bet, call, Button raises, BB folds, Hero 3-bets, fold, call

Turn: 4:s:

Bet, call

River: 9:d:

Check, bet, call

Genius on the button shows Q9os and rakes in my pot...ugh...lame. I check/called expecting to see a couple diamonds, maybe even a goofy straight or something like that after the snap-calls I got on the flop and turn, but Q9? Whatever...

After that I ran a little better, built up a stack somehow to around +$130, but then I ended up donking it off down to $60 somehow...yeah I told ya, my memory is shot. I've been on a terrible sleeping pattern for the last week...

One more hand...oh this one was pretty sick actually.

I limp behind a couple limpers in LP with A:c:8:c:, BB checks. About five players see a flop of...

Flop: T:c:6:c:3:s:

Checks to me, I bet, called in a few spots

Turn: 7:c:

Boom. Checks to me, I bet, SB raises, two players fold the action back to me, I 3-bet, SB caps. Interesting...I remember thinking "glad I'm blocking the straight-flush with my 8:c:"

River: K:h:

Bet, I raise, SB 3-bets, I four-bet, dealer says "eight more to call" and the SB looks at the dealer and asks "eight more?" I somewhat hurriedly pipe in and say "it's HU, so you could keep raising if you want" which got a few chuckles out of the other players. I was kinda pissed the dealer didn't say it was unlimited raising on the river since we were Heads-up...anyway he ends up just calling and angirly mucks K2 of clubs. What'd he think I had?

That's all for now...I'll blog about the NL session tomorrow (Saturday)...I'm gonna go crash now.
